Prayer and Pastoral Care

Jesus modelled how prayer is such a vital part of the way we relate to God, and we’re thankful that he taught us how to pray. At Knox Church we prioritise prayer as we grow as disciples.

Ways prayer happens in our church life includes:

  • regular prayer meetings
  • prayer chain – praying for specific pastoral concerns
  • inter-church prayer meetings
  • prayer in small groups

We also value people and seek to care for them, particularly in moments of difficulty, anxiety and grief. Much of the pastoral care at Knox Church happens organically; people care for one another without there being formal structures they work within.

Our registered nurse serves in our church community.

Our Faith Community Nurse serves our church on a voluntary basis. She offers practical care, support encouragement and advice for people within and beyond the church. She works within the wider network of pastoral care within the church. Often the Parish Nurse will be the first point of contact for someone in need.

There is a pastoral care team who help ensure that people in the church family are cared for when in particular need. It may be that meals are coordinated, people are visited, children are cared for. For those not in a small group, or perhaps living in a rest home, the pastoral care team visits and give them support.

The small groups, which usually meet in homes, provide care within the group and members pray for one another. As trust is established there’s mutual support that emerges, as we help bear one another’s burdens (Galatians 6:2).
